Brianna Cathey

I am a senior majoring in biomedical engineering in the pre-medicine track. When I joined the lab my freshman year, my focus area was designing and 3D printing tissue chambers and other tools for optical mapping studies conducted by other lab members. My current projects include constructing a fully 3D-printable tandem-lens optical mapping system, FIBSEM imaging of SA nodal tissue, and assisting Kedar in optical mapping studies of human ventricular wedges. From these studies, I have extensive experience in prototyping using 3D-design and digital signal processing of mapping data. I also perform image segmentation, 3D design of catheter devices, and tissue collection of sections of human hearts for RNA studies. During the summer of 2017, I completed an internship at the Office of Device Evaluation at the FDA, during which I worked on improving the review protocol for vital signs monitors. My work in Dr. Efimov’s lab resulted in the recent acceptance of my research paper to Nature Scientific Reports.
